Great Author Websites

This week in storytime we featured one of our favorite authors, Mo Willems. Children loved the mischievous Pigeon and roared with laughter as we acted out the book There’s A Bird on Your Head with Elephant and Piggie. We used Mo Willems wonderful websites to help inspire us. We found our craft on the website Pigeon Presents. You can click here for a direct link to Mo’s Pigeon door hanger.

There are so many wonderful authors that have amazing websites. Here are a few to get you started:

Jan Brett – Author of Gingerbread Baby, The Hat and The Mitten.  Enjoy hundreds of activities filled with Jan Brett’s beautiful art work. There are recipes, games to print, crafts, post cards and more. Visit the site and click on the activities tab to explore.

Eric Carle – Author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider and Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me. Click on the Resources tab and explore the Caterpillar Exchange Bulletin Board where teachers, librarians and parents posts activities to use with most of Eric Carle’s books.

Denise Fleming – Author of In the Small, Small Pond, Lunch and Barnyard Banter. Click on Activities to enjoy coloring pages, games and activities specific to Denise’s books.

*Our Past Storytime theme pages have picture book lists, fingerplays, song suggestions and directions for making a themed craft.*

Article from The Plain Dealer

goodnight-moonHave you ever felt frustrated when a child sits on your lap to hear you read “Goodnight Moon” for the 100th time? On Monday September 14, 2009, John Campanelli wrote a wonderful article regarding repetition and reading (and the frustrations and joys that go along with it).
